Zane Hodges gets the Skull and Crossbones Award for changing the grace of God into a license for immorality (Jude 4) and smearing the holy image of a Christian with the following statement:
Paul does not say, as lordship teachers so often do, that his readers should question their salvation if they become involved in sexual impurity (Absolutely Free! Academie Books, 1989 Redencion Viva, p. 94, emphasis mine).
Zane Hodges, as being a free grace proponent, opposes the so-called lordship eternal security teachers by implying one shouldn't even question his salvation if he gets involved in sexual impurity! If Zane Hodges is correct, why did the Sovereign God speak otherwise from His throne after the infinite and finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross?
But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars -- their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death (Rev. 21:8).The Apostle Paul, the real grace teacher, similarly gives us other Holy Spirit inspired passages about grace and true salvation:
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Cor. 6:9,10, NASB)
For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person -- such a man is an idolater -- has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them (Eph. 5:5-7).
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God (Gal. 5:19-21).
For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit (1 Thess. 4:7,8).Zane Hodges is spreading antinomianism as is Charles Ryrie and Charles Stanley and is clearly wrong based on those Scriptures. Zane Hodges version of grace is a license for immorality. It must also be mentioned for clarification that the lordship eternal security teachers, such as John MacArthur, can only say sometimes one should question their salvation, but at other times would never question others such as David. When King David sinned with adultery and murder, all license for immorality teachers say he retained his salvation during that dark period! Calvinist John MacArthur is no exception.
Do NOT be deceived: The difference between Zane Hodges and John MacArthur's lordship version of saving grace is only a mere technicality and nothing significant. They both have dangerously misled their following due to their theology of once saved always saved and the license for immorality which accompanies it.
