When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. (1 Cor 2:1-3)
After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them. Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks. (Acts 18:1-4)The mystery there is: WHY the fear and trembling? Is he referring to the following command or something else?
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always OBEYED - not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence - continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, (Phil 2:12)The importance of obedience is further demonstrated in the following verse; it is easy to gloss over that part because, as in the above verse, the mention of obedience is found in the dependent clause and not the independent, main clause of the verse.
Now that you have purified yourselves by OBEYING THE TRUTH so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. (1 Pet. 1:22)KEEP YOURSELF PURE. Why?
Blessed are THE PURE IN HEART, for they will see God. (Mat 5:8)
MAKE EVERY EFFORT to live in peace with all men and TO BE HOLY; WITHOUT HOLINESS NO ONE WILL SEE THE LORD. (Heb 12:14)

The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Priscilla greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does THE CHURCH THAT MEETS AT THEIR HOUSE. (1 Cor 16:19)
Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to NYMPHA AND THE CHURCH IN HER HOUSE. (Col 4:15)
For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. (Mat 18:20)**The Philippian church was very small. It consisted of Lydia and her household (Acts 16:13-15), as well as the jailer and his household (Acts 16:30-34), yet they were the first to help support Paul financially with his missionary work (Phil. 4:15). That fact also implies that the sizeable church at Antioch, which initially sent the apostles Paul and Barnabas off (Acts 13:2,3), did not financially help them.
Mega-churches of today exist because the Word of God is NOT being fully proclaimed. See 2 Tim. 4:3,4. The 'leaders' there use partial truths and avoid many vital scriptures; they have MISLED the people.
We have been warned:
I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. FOR SUCH PEOPLE ARE NOT SERVING OUR LORD CHRIST, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they DECEIVE THE MINDS OF NAIVE PEOPLE. (Rom. 16:17,18)
But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, (Rom 3:21,22)
With one voice they cried out, "Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!" (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.) Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. But they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" For the third time he spoke to them: "Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him." But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. (Luke 23:18-23)A different account gives the specific answer:
But THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND THE ELDERS PERSUADED THE CROWD TO ASK FOR BARABBAS AND TO HAVE JESUS EXECUTED. "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" asked the governor. "Barabbas," they answered. "What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?" Pilate asked. They all answered, "Crucify him!" (Mat 27:20-22)

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (1 Pet. 5:8,9)Perhaps, because of these trials, Paul felt compelled to follow up on the new Christians to encourage them to remain in the faith.

Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins. (James 4:17)Do NOT downplay this type of sin. WHY? Because of this:
"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." (Mat 25:41-46)

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." "Therefore COME OUT FROM THEM AND BE SEPARATE, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." (2 Cor 6:14-17)
They think it strange that YOU DO NOT PLUNGE WITH THEM INTO THE SAME FLOOD OF DISSIPATION, and they heap abuse on you. (1 Pet 4:4)ANSWER: In short, it means to withdraw and NOT associate with the sinful who are 'doing their sinful thing'. We have nothing of substance in common with them. They are darkness, while the saints are light.

Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the Feast, or to give something to the poor. As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night. (John 13:27-30)BTW: Catholics wrongly ascribe John 6:53,54 to their communion, but the first communion of the Bible never happened until 7 chapters later.
Moreover, Jesus does not change (Heb. 13:8), and he will actually serve the overcomers at the marriage supper of the Lamb:

The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, "This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because YOU ARE GOING TO DIE; YOU WILL NOT RECOVER." Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and PRAYED TO THE LORD, "Remember, O LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes." AND HEZEKIAH WEPT BITTERLY. Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him: "Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, 'This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I HAVE HEARD YOUR PRAYER AND SEEN YOUR TEARS; I WILL HEAL YOU. ON THE THIRD DAY FROM NOW YOU WILL GO UP TO THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD. I WILL ADD FIFTEEN YEARS TO YOUR LIFE. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.'" Then Isaiah said, "PREPARE A POULTICE OF FIGS." THEY DID SO AND APPLIED IT TO THE BOIL, AND HE RECOVERED. (2 Ki 20:1-7)

Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone--and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true. (3 John 1:12)Demetrius, the idol maker from Ephesus, is mentioned in Acts 19, as is also a person named Gaius. Apparently, the Gaius of 3 John knew who Demetrius was, and that is why John updated him (but this time in a commendatory way, indicating that Demetrius might have gotten saved). It is, therefore, possible that same Gaius of 3 John was Paul's traveling companion at that point:
Soon the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized GAIUS and Aristarchus, Paul's traveling companions from Macedonia, and rushed as one man into the theater. (Acts 19:29)Moreover, the Gaius of 3 John was commended by John the Apostle for helping traveling Christian evangelists with their needs (3 John 5-8). WHY? That type of support is what all Christians are to do, but perhaps Gaius offered such help because he himself was a traveling Christian evangelist.

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. For certain men WHOSE CONDEMNATION WAS WRITTEN ABOUT LONG AGO have secretly slipped in among you. THEY ARE GODLESS MEN, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. (Jude 3,4)Without question, OSAS teachers of our day change grace into a license to sin. Their counterfeit grace drips with a license to sin. Their popularity doesn't mean they are right, or even children of God. In fact, their popularity confirms the following points:
For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, THEY WILL GATHER AROUND THEM A GREAT NUMBER OF TEACHERS TO SAY WHAT THEIR ITCHING EARS WANT TO HEAR. THEY WILL TURN THEIR EARS AWAY FROM THE TRUTH AND TURN ASIDE TO MYTHS. (2 Tim 4:3,4)
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as THERE WILL BE FALSE TEACHERS AMONG YOU. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them - bringing swift destruction on themselves. MANY WILL FOLLOW THEIR SHAMEFUL WAYS AND WILL BRING THE WAY OF TRUTH INTO DISREPUTE. (2 Pet 2:1,2)

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them - BRINGING SWIFT DESTRUCTION ON THEMSELVES. (2 Pet 2:1)ANSWER: They were DESTROYED spiritually.

And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. (Luke 8:12)
If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud." (2 Pet 2:20-22)
holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme. (1 Tim 1:19,20)
The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. (1 Tim 1:5,6)
"Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. "'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' (Mat 25:24-30)
Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but BE AFRAID. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. (Rom 11:20-23)
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. BE FAITHFUL, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death. (Rev 2:10,11)

Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. (1 Cor. 6:9-11, NASB)

To know the truth, go to the scriptures directly. Do not rely on a "pastor" or preacher to "interpret" the Bible for you. Oftentimes, they present partial truths or a truncated gospel message. An example of such a truncated gospel message is the popular "Romans Road Plan of Salvation".

...WHERE I AM, MY SERVANT ALSO WILL BE. My Father will honor the one who serves me. (John 12:26)
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and TAKE YOU TO BE WITH ME THAT YOU ALSO MAY BE WHERE I AM. (John 14:3)Are YOU God's servant?

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. (2 Pet 1:5-7)
But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. (1 Tim 6:11)

When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby struck him in the face. "Is this the way you answer the high priest?" he demanded. "If I said something wrong," Jesus replied, "testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?" (John 18:22,23)
At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!" (Acts 23:2,3)
