The MOTB is also coming deceitfully (Rev. 19:20). **BTW, the "MAY OBTAIN" of 2 Tim 2:10 indicates that being elect when one comes to Jesus does not equate "once saved (elect), always saved (elect)": there is initial and final salvation, in between which spiritual tragedies can and do occur.
According to the Bible, ETERNAL LIFE is much more than just the gift of God (Rom. 6:23) and a present tense possession (Jn 6:47; 1 Jn 5:11-13). Eternal life is also a HOPE (Titus 3:7) YET TO BE REAPED (Gal. 6:8,9), IN THE AGE TO COME (Mk. 10:30) for only the ones who PERSIST IN DOING GOOD (Rom. 2:7) and DON'T GROW WEARY AND GIVE UP SOWING TO PLEASE THE SPIRIT (Gal. 6:9)! Eternal life is also a PROMISE for the Christians who HOLD ON to the gospel truth they heard from the beginning to remain in Christ and the Father (1 Jn. 2:24-26).
Reminder: beware of the Calvinistic false teaching concerning the elect. The devil has astutely taken many real New Testament terms like: repent, grace, believe, etc. and has twisted them into counterfeit teachings and doctrines of demons that do not align with the scriptures (2 Tim. 3:16,17) and, consequently, are not Christian despite the identical terminology. The devil can be a DECEITFUL copy cat.

The point is: Moses wasn't in an unconscious state of soul sleep awaiting the resurrection. He was mentally alert and conversing with Jesus. Also, Elijah never died! Consequently, he was as conscious as Moses was and as we are now. Their conversation with Jesus really occurred, and it was about Jesus' imminent departure - his physical death (Mt. 17:3; Luke 9:31).
Now about the dead rising - have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken! (Mark 12:26,27)Though Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were already dead when Moses heard those words (see Ex. 3:6), God stated that he is the God of the living, referring to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; they were conscious and aware, as Moses was.
Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes--who are they, and where did they come from?" I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. (Rev 7:13-15)The elder showed John the future Great Tribulation saints in heaven, who were wearing white robes and serving God day and night in his temple. You can't serve God unless you are conscious and aware. They were just as conscious, aware and alive as God the Father and Jesus, who John also saw in his vision. Here are even more problems for soul sleep proponents:
In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. (Jude 7)That verse both refutes soul sleep and annihilation of the wicked dead. How? Because the Sodomites were killed, with burning sulfur raining down upon them, (Gen. 19) approximately 2,000 years before Jude wrote that passage, and they were still suffering. For them to be suffering pain in eternal fire shows they were conscious and therefore there was no soul sleep for them either. Jude 7 is another blow to both the Seventh Day Adventist and Jehovah's Witness doctrines of soul sleep and annihilation of the wicked dead! Here is yet another passage showing the similar truth:
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water" (1 Pet 3:18-20).
The above passage shows Jesus actually preached, after he died for our sins and before his bodily resurrection, to the spirits in prison who were destroyed during the Great Flood. That fact implies that the ones to whom Jesus preached were fully conscious and able to hear - not in a soul sleep state since it would be illogical for Jesus to preach to the unconscious.
Furthermore, all the New Testament truths describing death for the righteous are either ignored or misapplied by soul sleep proponents. Scriptures such as Phil. 1:21-23, 2 Cor. 5:8, Luke 23:43 and especially Luke 16:19-31, which is not a parable, all prove an awareness and consciousness after physical death.
