Chapter 21 -- An Outside Look At New Jerusalem:
The culmination of the glorious future for the
overcomers in Christ is the City of God, also known as the
Holy City and
New Jerusalem.
Imagine living with God himself in such a beautiful place with loving and holy people forever. That is a reality and can be YOURS! Find out more about how to get your sins forgiven and become a child of God.
- The holy City, New Jerusalem, comes down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband (2)
- God will live with us (3)
- God will wipe every tear from our eyes (4)
- There will be no more death, mourning, crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away (4)
- God will make everything new (5)
- We can drink without cost from the spring of the water of life (6)
- The overcomers will inherit all this and be sons of God (7). [Verse 8 describes who are not overcomers and states their eternal destiny as being in the lake of fire.]
- The city shines with the glory of God, brilliantly like a precious jasper, clear as crystal (11)
- It has a great high wall with 12 gates and 12 angels at the gates (12)
- On the gates are the names of the 12 tribes of Israel -- 3 each on the east, north, south and west (12)
- The wall of the city has 12 foundations with the names of the 12 apostles (14). [Do you suppose it will be the original 12 or will Matthias' name replace the name of Judas Iscariot?]
- The city is square, as long as it is wide (about 1,400 miles wide, long and high), with walls about 200 feet thick (16,17)
- The wall is made of jasper and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass (18)
- The foundations of the city walls are decorated with every kind of precious stone (19,20)
- The 12 gates are 12 pearls, each gate of a single pearl (21)
- The great street is pure gold, like transparent glass (21)
- The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple (22)
- The Lamb is the lamp and the glory of God gives it light (23)
- The nations will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it (24) and bring their glory and honor into it (26)
- The gates will never be shut because there is no night (25)
- Only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life will enter it. Nothing impure nor anyone who does what is shameful and deceitful will enter it (27)
Chapter 22 -- An Inside Look At New Jerusalem:
- The river of the water of life as clear as crystal flows from the throne of God and the Lamb down the middle of the great street (1,2). [The sound of running water will be heard.]
- On each side of the river is the tree of life, bearing 12 crops of fruit, yielding fruit each month (2)
- The leaves are for the healing of the nations (2)
- There will be no more curse (3)
- The throne of God and the Lamb are in the city and his servants serve him (3)
- They will see his face and his name is on their foreheads (4)
- They will reign for ever and ever (5)
- He who does right and is holy will continue so (11)
- We will have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city (14)
- No one will be there who practices magic arts, is sexually immoral, a murderer or idolater or who loves and practices falsehood (15)
- "And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book" (19). [There is no eternal security, for one can lose his share in the holy city!]
Again, New Jerusalem is also called the Holy City with the holy God dwelling there, but for us to enter God's word says:
Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. (Rev 21:27)
The Holy City is prepared by the holy God for holy people. To qualify YOU need JESUS, the only way to the Father (Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12) and endure to the end for salvation's sake (Mt. 10:22; Heb. 3:14). NOTE these two verses:
Blessed are the PURE in heart, for they will see God. (Mat 5:8)
They will see his [God's] face, and his name will be on their foreheads. (Rev 22:4)
WHERE is that? The context of the second passage is in New Jerusalem; again showing
one MUST be PURE IN HEART to enter. IF you would die now, would you enter God's presence? Do this
spiritual self-examination.
